The Roast Of Stan SpirouBy Nick Tasso- Sports Editor On March 27th, the Manchester Kiwanis presented The Stan Spirou Roast to honor SNHU Men’s Basketball coach Stan Spirou. The event was held at SNHU’s Small Gym. Local native and comedian Jimmy Dunn was the MC for the evening. SNHU President Paul LeBlanc, Senator Lou D’Allesandro, Governor Walter Peterson, and Spirou’s brother Chris were just some of the roasters. Spirou’s Greek heritage and love for the game of basketball were popular topics of the roasters. The roast celebrated the work that Spirou has done in the New Hampshire community along with his longevity as SNHU Men’s Basketball coach. Throughout jokes about Spirou, President LeBlanc discussed how Stan Spirou is much more than a basketball coach. LeBlanc talked about how Spirou, “Prepares young people for meaningful lives. And he is an incredible teacher.” Chris Spirou spoke highly about his brother, “Getting involved and making a difference.” When it was the man of the hour’s turn at the podium, Stan Spirou captivated the audience by his jokes and personal stories that he told including a stretch where he jovially called LeBlanc, “the biggest media hound.” Overall, this was a great event to honor Stan Spirou and raise money for the Manchester Kiwanis. |
